Blast from the past: Murray vs Verdasco rally, 2013

It may feel like yesterday, but World No.1 Andy Murray’s first Wimbledon triumph happened nearly four years ago. It’s a shame the Scot never really fulfilled his potential after that…

On his way to picking up the crown, Murray faced left-handed Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in a gruelling quarter-final. For the seventh time in his career, Murray found himself two sets down before channeling his trademark grit to take the game in five sets.

The incredible rally below, which comes courtesy of the tournament’s YouTube channel, somewhat sums up the difficult encounter. It sees Murray recovering from a slight mishit (at five seconds) to recover time and again from Verdasco’s powerful forehands – before unleashing an excellent cross-court passing shot to rapturous applause.
