It seems that homegrown players can barely put a foot wrong at the moment and British No.3 Dan Evans has continued the trend with a stunning 3-6 6-4 6-1 victory over World No.8 Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals of the Apia Internation in Sydney.
It was the Brit’s first ever win against a top-ten player – an impressive achievement – although he was typically self-deprecating in an interview with Eurosport: “I don’t have that much in my game so I have to stay in rallies a long time and try and frustrate people – and I think that’s what I did pretty well today.”
Evans will now face Russian Andrey Kuznetsov in the semi-finals tomorrow, with the possibility of meeting either Viktor Troicki and Gilles Müller in the final.
