Fed Cup: Impressive Great Britain beat Portugal 3-0

Great Britain have begun their 2017 Fed Cup campaign on the right foot with a dominant 3-0 win over Portugal in Tallinn, Estonia.

Heather Watson set the benchmark early on, beating Ines Murta 6-1 6-1 in 57 minutes, before World No.10 Johanna Konta sealed the deal with a 6-2 6-4 victory over Michelle Larcher.

“I’m really happy to have got the match under my belt,” Konta told the BBC. “It was a high-level match, and it got better and better as the match went on. She made me work for it in the end and I’m really happy to have come through for the team.”

Jocelyn Rae and Laura Robson then went into their double match against De Brito and Murta knowing that the job was done, but still recorded a 6-2 6-3 win.

The Great Britain squad will now face Latvia (a team that includes World No.35 Jelena Ostapenko) on Thursday and Turkey on Friday before, hopefully, making it through to a play-off with the winners of Group B on Saturday.
