Murray brothers finish the season as World No.1

The arena is silent as Andy Murray prepares to serve for the tournament – his third match point. He stretches up and delivers a straightforward, yet powerful, shot to his opponent, Novak Djokovic. However, the Serb miscues his winning return and sprays into the tramline. Cue pandemonium.

It was an incredible end to what has been a golden season for British tennis. For the first time ever, two brothers hold the World No.1 doubles and singles crown at the same time.

The younger Murray, see the ear-splitting video above, capped off his Wimbledon-winning and Olympic-gold season with his 24th straight victory to retain the top spot. It’s an achievement that has set the knighthood rumour mill grinding away once again.

The older Murray, Jamie, became half of the World No.1 doubles duo (the other being Brazilian Bruno Soares) when Frenchmen Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut lost in their final ATP World Tour Finals round robin last Friday.

The pair eventually lost against Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram, but they had done enough to stay at the top of the head. Speaking to the Evening Standard, Murray said: “It’s very exciting. It’s a strange way to do it in the end but we’ve had a great year and won some big tournaments.”

Here’s hoping for more of the same from the Murray brothers next season!
