Video: Meet a young Andy Murray

Following Andy Murray’s hard-fought battle to remain World No.1 at the end of the season, we take a trip down tennis memory lane to one of his first television appearances on BBC Scotland.

Training on what looks like an incredibly wet clay court, the 14-year-old Murray isn’t a million miles away from the consummate professional he is now: ambitious, focused and with unflinching support from his mother Judy.

As is always the case with “origin” videos, some of the comments are remarkably prescient, especially “it may not be long before Scotland has somebody on par with the likes of Tim Henman… despite the weather”. Not half.

Also, skip forward to 2.08 for perhaps one of the worst backhand volleys ever captured on film.
